1. Introduction
The MultiChoice Group, a CANAL+ company Premium Drama Call for Projects ("the Call for Projects") is presented in partnership with FAME Week Africa to identify premium African drama series with the potential to be commissioned for broadcast across the MultiChoice Group, CANAL+ and StudioCanal ecosystem.
This is a dedicated commissioning opportunity and is separate from the MIP Africa Project Pitch Platform.
Submission of an application constitutes acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.
2. Eligibility
2.1 The Call for Projects is open to producers, production companies and rights holders based in Africa.
2.2 Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
2.3 Applications may be submitted by individuals or registered production companies.
2.4 Applicants must own or control all intellectual property rights necessary to submit the project.
2.5 Employees of RX Africa, FAME Week Africa, MultiChoice Group, CANAL+, StudioCanal and members of the judging panel, together with their immediate family members, are not eligible to enter.
3. Editorial Brief
Projects submitted must align with the commissioning brief.
MultiChoice Group is seeking:
- Contemporary drama series
- High-concept storytelling
- Commercially appealing projects
- Action-driven narratives
- Authentic African stories
- Universal themes
- Aspirational storytelling
- Stories that naturally resonate across two or more African territories
Projects should comprise approximately:
- 8–12 episodes
- 50-minute episodes
The final episode count will be determined by the creative concept.
Projects should demonstrate strong production ambition while remaining commercially viable and should not rely on large-scale financing or complex international co-production structures.
4. Language
Projects may be submitted in any African language, English or French.
Applicants are encouraged to preserve the authenticity of the story and its cultural context.
5. Submission Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Creative Treatment (PDF)
- Estimated Production Budget
The Creative Treatment must include:
- Series Overview
- Logline
- Synopsis
- World of the Story
- Style & Tone References
- Character Overviews
Only complete submissions received before the closing date will be considered.
6. Submission Deadline
Applications open on [Insert Opening Date].
All entries must be received by 23:59 (SAST) on [Insert Closing Date].
Late submissions will not be accepted.
7. Selection Process
7.1 All submissions will undergo an initial editorial review by the MIP Africa team.
7.2 Selected projects will be shortlisted and invited to participate in a live pitching session before representatives of:
- MultiChoice Group
- CANAL+
- StudioCanal
- FAME Week Africa
7.3 The judging panel's decisions are final.
No correspondence regarding judging decisions will be entered into.
8. Live Pitch
8.1 Shortlisted applicants must be available to pitch their project in person during FAME Week Africa 2026, taking place from 28–30 October 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC2), Cape Town, South Africa.
8.2 Applicants are responsible for all costs associated with attending the live pitch, including travel, accommodation, visas and related expenses, unless otherwise confirmed in writing by the organisers.
8.3 Failure to attend the live pitch may result in disqualification, and the organisers reserve the right to invite an alternate project.
9. Commissioning
9.1 Being shortlisted and invited to pitch does not constitute:
- a commission;
- a development agreement;
- an option agreement;
- a production agreement;
- a licence agreement; or
- any financial commitment.
9.2 Participation in the live pitching session is part of the editorial evaluation process only.
9.3 MultiChoice Group, CANAL+ and StudioCanal reserve the right not to commission any project if, in their sole discretion, none of the shortlisted submissions sufficiently meet their editorial, commercial or strategic requirements.
9.4 Selection to pitch should not be interpreted as any guarantee that a project will proceed to development or production.
9.5 Should a project be selected for commissioning, development discussions will commence thereafter and will be subject to separate negotiations and formal legal agreements.
10. Intellectual Property
10.1 Applicants retain ownership of all intellectual property contained within their submission.
10.2 Submission of a project does not transfer ownership or grant any rights to FAME Week Africa, RX Africa, MultiChoice Group, CANAL+ or StudioCanal.
10.3 Applicants warrant that:
- the work is original;
- they own or control all necessary rights;
- the submission does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.
11. Confidentiality
Reasonable efforts will be made to treat submissions confidentially.
However, applicants acknowledge that:
- MultiChoice Group, CANAL+, StudioCanal and their affiliates may already be developing similar concepts;
- similarities between submitted ideas and existing or future productions do not constitute evidence of copying;
- submission does not create a confidential relationship or partnership between the applicant and the organisers.
12. Costs
Applicants are responsible for all costs associated with:
- preparing their submission;
- submitting materials;
- attending the live pitch (if shortlisted);
- obtaining travel documentation where required.
No costs incurred by applicants will be reimbursed unless expressly agreed in writing.
13. Marketing & Publicity
By entering, applicants grant FAME Week Africa, MultiChoice Group, CANAL+ and StudioCanal permission to:
- announce shortlisted projects;
- publish project titles;
- publish production company names;
- publish applicant names;
- use photographs and video footage captured during the pitching process for promotional purposes.
Creative treatments and supporting materials will not be published without the applicant's permission.
14. Right to Amend
The organisers reserve the right to:
- amend these Terms & Conditions;
- amend the editorial brief;
- extend submission deadlines;
- alter judging timelines;
- amend pitching dates;
- cancel or suspend the Call for Projects should circumstances require.
Any changes will be communicated through the official FAME Week Africa channels.
15. Limitation of Liability
Neither RX Africa, FAME Week Africa, MultiChoice Group, CANAL+, StudioCanal nor their employees, directors or representatives shall be liable for:
- lost submissions;
- technical failures;
- submission errors;
- delays;
- cancellation of the programme;
- costs incurred by applicants.
16. Acceptance
By submitting an application, entrants confirm that:
- they have read and understood these Terms & Conditions;
- all information submitted is accurate;
- they own or control the rights necessary to submit the project;
- they are available to pitch in person should their project be shortlisted;
- they acknowledge that selection to pitch does not guarantee a commission or any subsequent agreement with MultiChoice Group, CANAL+ or StudioCanal.
