In South Africa, August is Women's Month — a time to celebrate the women who inspire, lead and shape our society while recognising the work that still lies ahead to achieve true equality. To mark the occasion, FAME Week Africa is proud to launch Africa's Leading Women in Entertainment — a new initiative celebrating the remarkable women shaping Africa's creative economy across film, television, music, fashion, gaming, digital storytelling, animation, podcasting, entertainment technology and beyond.
From the women captivating audiences on screen and stage to the visionaries working behind the scenes — producers, directors, writers, executives, editors, designers, entrepreneurs, technologists and innovators — this initiative shines a spotlight on the leaders driving Africa’s entertainment industry forward.
Earlier this year, we invited the industry to nominate the women they believed deserved recognition. The response was overwhelming, reflecting the extraordinary depth of talent, leadership and creativity across the continent.
This is not an official or definitive list. We know there are many incredible women whose contributions may not yet be represented, and that is exactly why we see this as the beginning of something much bigger.
If you know a woman who is making a difference in Africa’s entertainment industry, we want to hear from you. Help us continue to grow this community, celebrate its achievements, and ensure that the women shaping our industry receive the recognition they deserve.
Together, let's celebrate Africa's leading women in entertainment.
