Official Terms & Conditions
1. Introduction
The MultiChoice Group, a CANAL+ company Unscripted Call for Projects (“the Call for Projects”) is presented in partnership with FAME Week Africa to identify bold, premium unscripted Entertainment and Reality formats with the potential to be commissioned and scaled across MultiChoice Group and CANAL+ markets.
The Call for Projects is seeking original concepts with an immediate hook, addictive storytelling, strong audience appeal and the potential to become conversation-driving cultural events.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to pitch their projects live at FAME Week Africa 2026.
Submission of an application constitutes acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.
2. Eligibility
2.1 The Call for Projects is open to producers, production companies and rights holders based in Africa.
2.2 Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
2.3 Applications may be submitted by individuals or registered production companies.
2.4 Applicants must own or control all intellectual property rights necessary to submit the project.
2.5 Employees of RX Africa, FAME Week Africa, MultiChoice Group, CANAL+ and members of the judging panel, together with their immediate family members, are not eligible to enter.
3. Editorial Brief
Projects submitted must align with the unscripted commissioning brief.
MultiChoice Group is seeking premium Entertainment and Reality concepts that demonstrate:
- A singular creative vision with an original and ambitious concept that can be explained in one sentence and does not rely on casting alone.
- Clear engagement mechanics, dynamic pacing, twists, cliffhangers and strong narrative arcs that keep audiences watching.
- Premium execution, including cinematic production values, bold artistic direction, an authentic emotional core and a distinctive point of view.
- Fresh and compelling talent, with diverse and charismatic participants and casting choices that move beyond clichés and overused stereotypes.
- A clear and repeatable format structure that can travel across cultures and support multiple seasons.
- Scalability and cost-efficiency, including the potential, where relevant, to benefit from a production hub model.
- Strong IP with the potential to become a recurring franchise across MultiChoice Group and CANAL+ markets.
Genres actively sought include:
- Dating shows with a twist
- Reinvented game shows
- Reinvented talent shows
- Social experiments with a strong point of view
- Reality
- Adaptations of existing IP, including games, brands, fiction or digital culture
Concepts should be adaptable across geographies and suited to key MultiChoice Group and CANAL+ territories, including South Africa, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Poland and France.
Projects should demonstrate enhanced production value and ambition while remaining within a commercially viable budget framework. Concepts should not rely on large-scale financing and should be capable of being funded by one specific business unit before being scaled across additional markets.
4. Language and Territory
4.1 Concepts should be capable of being adapted across different territories and cultures.
4.2 Applicants must indicate the territory or territories for which the format is primarily intended and where they believe the concept could initially be produced.
4.3 Applicants must indicate the language or languages in which the programme would initially be produced.
5. Submission Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A Creative Treatment in PDF format
- An estimated production budget, including the principal cost assumptions
- A proposed format and season structure, including episode duration, number of episodes, season structure and recurrence potential
The Creative Treatment should address:
Creative Vision
- The hook in one sentence
- What differentiates the concept from anything else currently available
- The intended emotional impact on viewers
- Why the format should exist now
- The key proof points for why the programme will work
Format Mechanics
- The core engine of the programme, for example competition, game or social experiment
- The key rules and mechanics
- What creates tension, cliffhangers and twists across episodes
Storytelling and Pace
- The proposed season structure
- The structure of a typical episode
- The main narrative arcs and expected iconic moments
Talent and Casting
- Who will participate and why they will be compelling
- Whether any talent is already attached
Editorial DNA
- Why the concept belongs on a MultiChoice Group premium channel rather than conventional free-to-air television
- What will make the production distinctive and premium
Audience and Impact
- The core target audience
- Whether the concept connects with existing communities
- Why audiences will talk about the programme in person and across social platforms
Global Franchise Potential
- Whether the format can sustain multiple seasons
- How it can evolve while remaining recognisable
- Whether it can be efficiently adapted across countries and cultures
Only complete submissions received before the closing date will be considered.
6. Google Drive and Supporting Documents
6.1 All supporting documents must be uploaded to Google Drive and the relevant links included in the application.
6.2 All Google Drive links must be accessible to the selection team.
6.3 Applicants must ensure that the sharing permissions for each submitted file are set to:
“Anyone with the link can view”
6.4 Applicants are responsible for testing all links before submitting their application.
6.5 Links that require the selection team to request access should not be submitted.
6.6 If the selection team is unable to access the supporting documents, the submission may not be considered.
7. Submission Deadline
Applications open on 23:59 (SAST) on 9 September 2026
All entries must be received by 23:59 (SAST) on 12 October 2026.
Late submissions will not be accepted.
8. Selection Process
8.1 All submissions will undergo an initial editorial review by the FAME Week Africa team.
8.2 Projects will be assessed against the creative, editorial, audience, commercial and scalability criteria outlined in the brief.
8.3 Selected projects will be shortlisted and invited to participate in a live pitching session before representatives of MultiChoice Group and FAME Week Africa.
8.4 The judging panel’s decisions are final.
No correspondence regarding judging decisions will be entered into.
9. Live Pitch at FAME Week Africa
9.1 Shortlisted applicants must be available to pitch their project in person during FAME Week Africa 2026, taking place from 28–30 October 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC2), Cape Town, South Africa.
9.2 The live pitch will give shortlisted producers the opportunity to present their concept directly to the MultiChoice Group selection panel and demonstrate its creative, commercial and franchise potential.
9.3 Applicants are responsible for all costs associated with attending the live pitch, including travel, accommodation, visas and related expenses, unless otherwise confirmed in writing by the organisers.
9.4 Failure to attend the live pitch may result in disqualification, and the organisers reserve the right to invite an alternate project.
10. Commissioning
10.1 Being shortlisted and invited to pitch does not constitute:
- a commission;
- a development agreement;
- an option agreement;
- a production agreement;
- a licence agreement; or
- any financial commitment.
10.2 Participation in the live pitching session forms part of the editorial evaluation process only.
10.3 MultiChoice Group and CANAL+ reserve the right not to commission any project if, in their sole discretion, none of the shortlisted submissions sufficiently meet their editorial, commercial or strategic requirements.
10.4 Selection to pitch should not be interpreted as any guarantee that a project will proceed to development or production.
10.5 Should a project be selected for commissioning, any subsequent development, production, licensing or other discussions will be subject to separate negotiations and formal legal agreements.
11. Intellectual Property
11.1 Applicants retain ownership of all intellectual property contained within their submission.
11.2 Submission of a project does not transfer ownership or grant any rights to FAME Week Africa, RX Africa, MultiChoice Group or CANAL+.
11.3 Applicants warrant that:
- the work is original;
- they own or control all necessary rights; and
- the submission does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.
12. Confidentiality
Reasonable efforts will be made to treat submissions confidentially.
However, applicants acknowledge that:
- MultiChoice Group, CANAL+ and their affiliates may already be developing or considering similar concepts;
- similarities between submitted ideas and existing or future productions do not constitute evidence of copying; and
- submission does not create a confidential relationship or partnership between the applicant and the organisers.
13. Costs
Applicants are responsible for all costs associated with:
- preparing their submission;
- preparing supporting materials;
- attending the live pitch if shortlisted; and
- obtaining travel documentation where required.
No costs incurred by applicants will be reimbursed unless expressly agreed in writing.
14. Marketing & Publicity
By entering, applicants grant FAME Week Africa, MultiChoice Group and CANAL+ permission to:
- announce shortlisted projects;
- publish project titles;
- publish production company names;
- publish applicant names; and
- use photographs and video footage captured during the pitching process for promotional purposes.
Creative treatments, budgets and other supporting materials will not be published without the applicant’s permission.
15. Right to Amend
The organisers reserve the right to:
- amend these Terms & Conditions;
- amend the editorial brief;
- extend submission deadlines;
- alter judging timelines;
- amend pitching dates; and
- cancel or suspend the Call for Projects should circumstances require.
Any changes will be communicated through the official FAME Week Africa channels.
16. Limitation of Liability
Neither RX Africa, FAME Week Africa, MultiChoice Group, CANAL+ nor their employees, directors or representatives shall be liable for:
- lost submissions;
- inaccessible Google Drive links;
- technical failures;
- submission errors;
- delays;
- cancellation of the programme; or
- costs incurred by applicants.
17. Acceptance
By submitting an application, entrants confirm that:
- they have read and understood these Terms & Conditions;
- all information submitted is accurate;
- they own or control the rights necessary to submit the project;
- all supporting document links are accessible to the selection team;
- they are available to pitch in person at FAME Week Africa 2026 should their project be shortlisted; and
- they acknowledge that selection to pitch does not guarantee a commission or any subsequent agreement with MultiChoice Group or CANAL+.
